Stephen is a partner and head of the claimant division at Hugh James Solicitors. He is a clinical negligence specialist and chairman of the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers, which is an organisation that represents over 100 specialist clinical negligence law firms throughout the UK. Stephen is a longstanding member of the Action Against Medical Accidents and Law Society clinical negligence panels and is a fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Stephen has dealt with a number of high profile cases, including Ceri Ann Walters v North Glamorgan NHS Trust, which is the leading case dealing with psychiatric injuries affecting secondary victims of clinical negligence, and acting for the families affected by the E-Coli outbreak in South Wales in September 2005. Stephen has recovered tens of millions of pounds of compensation for clients suffering from very serious injuries following clinical negligence and specialises in cases involving cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury.

Stephen regularly lectures at Cardiff University on clinical negligence issues and frequently appears in the media commenting on clinical negligence. He is described by the leading legal directories as “a real star”, “impressively good”, “first rate” and “excellent for high value brain injury claims”. Stephen is married with three young children. Most of his free time is spent with his family, although he enjoys watching and playing football.
