Danny Keenan practised as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and the Alexandra Hospital Cheshire, retiring from active practice in 2017. He was involved in the full range of adult cardiac surgery and has been heavily involved in thoracic trauma, managing closed and open injuries. He continues as Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery to the University of Manchester.
He is Associate Medical Director to the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, dealing with medical professional matters such as appraisal, revalidation and doctors in difficulty. His other roles are as medical director of the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, managing the National Clinical Audit Programme for NHS England and he chairs, for NICE, the Indicator Advisory Committee.
He deals with medico-legal work, having undergone training, so that his practice extends over the areas of personal injury and of malpractice and negligence.
