Michael Redfern QC

Michael took Silk in 1993. He practices in the fields of clinical negligence, brain injuries and road traffic and factory accidents with severe consequences
He has appeared in a number of leading cases including Stark v The Post Office 2000 EWCA Civ 64 and Wisniewski v Central Manchester Health Authority 1998 EWCA Civ 596. It is interesting to see where Stark now sits in light of the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013.
Michael has conducted two Government Inquiries. In 2001, he chaired the Royal Liverpool Children’s Inquiry (Alder Hey) ref HC12-1. From 2007 to 2010 he Chaired The Redfern Inquiry into human tissue analysis in UK nuclear and NHS facilities ref HC 571-11.
He was Leader of the Northern Circuit from Jan.2005 to Dec. 2007.
He was Head of Chambers from 2004 to 2012 . For many years he was the Barristers Benevolent Association’s Circuit Representative.
He is a qualified Mediator and is leading St John’s Buildings Chambers Mediation Service. There is an obvious government drive towards alternative dispute resolution which is gaining force daily. There is a clear shift away from adversarial litigation, its delays , costs consequences and associated stress factors.
